CorelDraw Users: Vector Art with Gradients

How to Avoid This Blending Issue

There is an interesting issue that reoccurs for CorelDraw users when they open certain EPS vector files that were redrawn in Adobe Illustrator. Instead of a gradient appearing like the clear gradient colorful image on the left, it appears “not correct,” and might look more like the unsatisfactory image on the right. In this blog, we explore the issue and how to ensure it won’t happen to you.

Gradient Is Correctly Displayed                                                                                                   Gradient Appears Incorrectly

If you’ve ever ordered a vector file in EPS format and then viewed it in CorelDraw, you may have been surprised to find that the image looks jagged and blurry like a low-resolution jpeg. Sometimes, the CorelDraw program views gradients as a low-resolution image clip instead of the original vector image.

This may be due to certain effects used in Adobe Illustrator that do not easily convert over the same way in CorelDraw.

For all EPS vector file orders, Ignition Drawing natively redraws vector art using Adobe Illustrator.

EPS files do have the flexibility to be opened using different vector programs. And unfortunately, sometimes when opened in CorelDraw, certain features or effects that were redrawn in Adobe Illustrator may look jagged, just like a raster image.

For preventative measure, if you have an image that needs to be redrawn into vector and have areas of gradients or shading, there are two solutions:

  1. When ordering, you can request a CorelDraw file, or

  2. You can add a note in your order that you’d like the vector redrawn in CorelDraw (rather than Adobe Illustrator) and then saved as an EPS file.
